1. Make your own Trail Mix with favorites
Before your trip, let kids pick out a few of their favorite snacks to combine for their very own trail mix blend. Parents, feel free to toss some healthy options into the mix as well. Pre-portion the mix into mini baggies for a tasty treat, they can go to when hunger hits.
2. Have some fun with the tunes!
We all have different tastes, so to keep everybody happy, let each rider take a turn selecting their favorite songs. Set a time limit for each person and enjoy exploring musical genres galore.
3. Give kids something to look forward to!
To make the hours fly by, every hour on the hour, have a little surprise ready to give them. Think simple like a pack of gum or a sheet of stickers. It will make the trip exciting for the little ones as they eagerly await their next surprise.
4. Make it an adventure!
If you have extra time. Don’t be afraid to pull over for some extra fun. Let each rider choose a roadside stop. Maybe it’s a quick photo op at a national park or a visit to a local ice cream parlor they spot along the way. Don’t be in such a rush to get to your destination that you forget to enjoy the journey!
5. Grab a deck of Playprint for hours of screen-free entertainment!
Playprint is a deck of mix and match cards that provides creative play prompts and can easily be adapted to long car rides simply by sorting out activities that don’t require a lot of supplies or space.
Some of our favorite car ride activities inspired by Playprint include creating stories, songs, and games. Parents, pull it out for some family fun or have them play independently when you’re ready for a little break!
